Porcelain veneers are thin, tooth colored chips of porcelain that are permanently bonded to the front of your teeth to create natural and beautiful smiles. Veneers are used to correct dental defects that cannot be fully treated with bonding or whitening. They are more conservative than crowns, because they only require the removal of approximately one half of a millimeter of enamel. Some of the more common uses of veneers include correction for severe color discrepancy, large gaps between the teeth, fractures, crooked teeth and congenital malformation. Pictured here is a patient with undersized, irregular teeth. She is also congenitally missing a tooth (as seen on the left side of the "before" photo). Four porcelain veneers were applied to her front teeth and a three unit all porcelain bridge was fabricated to replace the missing tooth. Notice the absence of the "black line" so often seen on porcelain fused to metal restorations. With porcelain veneers and all-porcelain crowns and bridges, the margins of your restorations will never give themselves away.
