When a tooth is congenitally missing or lost due to accident or dental disease, there are several ways to replace it. When an implant is not the treatment of choice for a fixed prosthesis, the alternative is a fixed bridge. Bridges may be fabricated from all porcelain, porcelain fused to gold, or composite resin. There are numerous means in which to attach the bridge to the adjacent teeth. In the patient pictured, a resin bonded "Maryland" bridge replaced the missing two lower anterior teeth. This conservative bridge required virtually no reduction of the supporting teeth. The upper six front teeth were treated with porcelain veneers to complete this esthetic make-over.
