The badly broken down silver/mercury amalgam has lost its usefulness. It has been replaced with a tooth colored, bonded porcelain inlay restoration. This type of restoration requires two visits to complete, as an inlay or onlay (which replaces at least one cusp as well as the internal portion of the tooth) is fabricated in a dental laboratory under the close scrutiny of a Certified Dental Lab Technician.
